East and South-East Asia progressed by 14 percentage points in wolrd GDP* from 1980 to 2005.
With a contribution of 21,5%, this region weighs now as much as the United States or the European Union. Its share, similar to the Japan's one in 1980, represents in 2005 three times as much.

The tremendous catching-up of the region brings its economic performance closer to its demographic weight (30% of world population).
